Inspiration:- I got the idea for MasonFlow after seeing how students often waste time on campus because they don’t know what’s happening before they get there. For example, I have seen friends walk to a dining hall during peak hours, realize it is too crowded, and then go back to their dorm to wait before trying again. The same thing happens with parking students go to one deck find it full and then drive around to another which takes unnecessary time. I also noticed that study room availability isn’t always easy to check in one place. That’s when I thought it would be useful to connect all of this into one simple platform where students can check availability and plan their day more wisely.
What it does:-MasonFlow helps students check parking occupancy, dining hall crowd levels, and study room availability in one place. It also allows users to get directions directly through Google Maps so once they decide where to go they can navigate immediately. In addition to real time availability students can use the built in AI assistant to plan their entire day based on their schedule helping them decide the best times to park eat or study. The goal is to save time and reduce stress by giving students better visibility into campus resources and helping them organize their day more efficiently.
How we built it:- I built this project by first structuring the idea clearly and then I used AI tools like ChatGPT to refine prompts logic and feature implementation. I used Base44 to manage data and implement core features such as authentication availability tracking and the interface. A time based occupancy system was created to simulate realistic percentages for parking and dining. The AI assistant was integrated to respond using current campus data. The focus was on connecting everything into one clean, accessible interface.
Challenges we ran into:-One of the biggest challenges was writing proper prompts and structuring the logic clearly. Since I kept adding new ideas and improving features, it required multiple refinements. Making everything work smoothly together while maintaining a clean design was also challenging within the limited time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:- I am proud that I was able to take a real campus problem and turn it into a working application within a short time. As a solo participant I successfully built a system that connects parking availability, dining crowd levels, study room booking, Google Maps directions, and an AI assistant into one clean platform. I am especially proud of integrating the time based occupancy simulation and the AI powered day planner so the app does not just show data but actually helps students make better decisions. Completing a full stack AI integrated campus tool independently under time pressure is something I am genuinely proud of.
What we learned:- Through this project, I learned how to properly use modern development tools and AI systems effectively. I understood the importance of structuring prompts clearly and planning a project step by step before implementing features. It also helped me understand how to connect different components into one functional system
What's next for MasonFlow:- In the future, I plan to expand MasonFlow by adding more features such as meeting coordination, student profile integration, and improved dining menu support. The goal is to continue improving it into a more complete campus companion platform.
