ManagerGym — Shipathon Product Update
ManagerGym is now live on both iOS and Android, and development has moved well beyond the original launch build.
The biggest update since my last post is Coach V1 — a new post-workout coaching experience that gives structured feedback after each leadership scenario, highlights what went well, identifies the key growth area, explains pivotal moments, and recommends what to practice next.
I also added Voice Mode, so users can listen to their Coach feedback instead of only reading it.
On the technical side, I completed a full on-device AI evaluation using Apple’s Foundation Models framework on a physical iPhone 16 Pro Max. The integration worked, but real generation latency was around 3.4 to 5.6 seconds, and the generated structure failed ManagerGym’s strict validation checks in all benchmark runs.
Based on that data, I decided not to ship AI as a synchronous Coach enhancement. ManagerGym keeps the deterministic Coach experience fast and reliable, while the Apple adapter stays in the codebase for future features that are a better fit for multi-second generation.
I’m also working on the next major iOS experience: ManagerGym Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. The goal is to make leadership practice more habit-forming with features like:
- Today’s Leadership Rep
- Leadership Momentum
- Home Screen widgets
- Lock Screen widgets
- quick access back into the next leadership workout
The current focus is now on:
- polishing Coach V1 for the 1.2.0 release
- completing the iOS WidgetKit experience
- final QA and App Store / Play release readiness
- preparing for a future Android on-device AI evaluation once I have supported hardware
ManagerGym started as a simple leadership workout app, but it’s becoming a much more complete practice system — still offline-first, privacy-conscious, and designed around one principle:
Practice the conversations leadership requires.
I’m still building this mostly on weekends alongside my regular job, so Shipathon has been a great reason to keep shipping consistently.
