Additional info didnt get uploaded for some reason:

School lunch gets thrown away because the kitchen cannot see why. Cooks see full trash cans at the end of lunch, but they cannot see which specific dish was in them or what was wrong with it. Students have strong opinions but nowhere easy to share them, so the feedback never leaves the lunch table.

How we know it is real:

  • We surveyed 23 students at our school, and 91 percent said they straight up do not like the school food. Their reasons mostly came down to how the food looks, presentation, and wishing they had options they would actually eat.
  • We spoke to three cafeteria staff members, who told us they genuinely want to make food students like, but they are working completely in the dark without any feedback loop.
  • It is a well-documented waste problem. A 2019 World Wildlife Fund audit called Food Waste Warriors weighed cafeteria trash at 46 U.S. schools in9 cities and found about 39 pounds of food wasted per student per school year.

LunchLine targets the missing piece: dish-level feedback from students, collected with one tap and no accounts, so a kitchen can cook more of what gets eaten and less of what gets trashed.
