Inspiration

We have all personally experienced being unable to be present at a big event, and missing out on both the excitement of a party and making the host’s feel appreciated. Kakaotalk’s gifting feature allows people to send gifts to friends/family virtually, but we wanted to create a space that expands on the gifting feature to create something immersive that linked guests and hosts, both in-person and online.

What it does

We have multiple features like Gift, Live, Playlist, and Guestbook that users can access.

How we built it

First, we looked at the drawbacks of the current gifting options on apps like KakaoTalk, particularly their lack of emotional depth. We then mapped out the presence, interaction, personalization, and shared memory as the main touchpoints of a meaningful remote celebration. Our team brainstormed and iterated on features like Live photo streams, a digital guestbook with maps, group gifting, and a collaborative music queue (DJ Fetti). In order to convey warmth and approachability, we used rounded elements and gentle pastels colors to create a simple yet playful user experience.

Challenges we ran into

As beginner Figma users in our first design marathon, we had a bit of trouble with coming up with a game plan and the 24 hour time crunch was certainly a bit of stress. This is our whole team’s first time designing an app, and although we’ve had experience with Figma, this was a fun challenge to take on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re all art students at RISD, but most of our projects have been individual ones focused on depicting our own ideas on traditional mediums. We’re proud of how we were able to come together in such a short amount of time with people we haven’t worked with before and produce something collaboratively online.

What we learned

We discovered over the process how important human connection is in digital interactions. People desire attention, presence, and sincerity in addition to convenience. Thinking beyond functionality and emphasizing presence, memory, and storytelling was part of designing for emotion. We looked at how design may affect a digital product's emotional tone through color, layout, and interactive elements. This was also our first time using the prototype tab of Figma. It was really rewarding to learn the process of making pathways and seeing the interactions work out.

What's next for Fetti

In our prototype, we mostly focused on what guests at an event would see. In the future, we’d like to also develop the hosts’ POV and how they will be able to see all the memories that both online and in-person guests added to their celebration.
