Inspiration

Thanks to my grandfather, I discovered Western movies, and this game is dedicated to all the grandparents who raised us through these important films. LUCKY SHOT is a "casual game" that consists of mini-games inspired by iconic scenes from classic “Spaghetti Westerns” movies.

What it does

The first episode was inspired by the saloon scene from the film “My Name is Nobody” in which the protagonist must drink glasses of whiskey and then throw them and shoot them in mid-air before they hit the ground. You will be challenged to defeat the four best gunslingers in the saloon in a growing level of difficulty. The game features also a training area on an abandoned ranch, where you can enjoy testing your shooting skills without time limits in a real sandbox. All this is enhanced by a Western atmosphere with realistic graphics, engaging dialogue, and high-quality sound effects. For those who want to play for minutes or hours. One thing is certain: once you start, you won't want to stop.

How we built it

We developed the game in Unreal Engine using 3d models made with Blender and Lightwave, textures made with Photoshop, Substance, 3d Coat. The UIs were created in Illustrator using a layout grid.

Challenges, accomplishments and what we learned

The most difficult challenge was to achieve a balance between realism and pure, simple, genuine arcade fun. We are also proud of the graphics and frame rate achieved in the standalone version. We learned how to achieve realistic yet optimised glass material and how to best manage pre-loading.

What's next for LUCKY SHOT

Our goal is to expand the game by adding more missions. For example, in future episodes, you can take part in duels, knock a cowboy's hat off with a gunshot, shoot the rope of a man about to be hanged, extinguish a cigar with a gunshot or disarm opponents by hitting their guns before they can fire. We are also planning a story mode.
