Oct 11: fixes that reached the App Store build, and what happened to the first trial
Since the last update, everything I've shipped to users has been on the server. That means it's already in App Store build 6, the build in the demo video, and on Android. Nobody had to update the app.
Fixes
- Chat replies stopped partway through. Chat gave the model 1,024 tokens for its reply, and the model's thinking came out of the same budget, so a long reply could run out before it finished. Thinking is now kept short, and the limit is 2,048.
- Asking Loonee to set a reminder or log a weight could fail. There were four separate bugs:
- When chat used a tool, the model never saw today's date, so "tomorrow" had nothing to count from. This had been there since July.
- The server rejected times written with a timezone offset like +05:30, and times written with no timezone at all.
- The duplicate check matched on the card's title. After you logged one weight or one vaccine dose in a chat, every later one in that chat was refused as already logged.
- Card times showed in UTC, so a 9:00 AM reminder in India read 3:30 AM.
After the fix, a test chat asked for two medicine reminders at 9 AM and 9 PM, and both were saved for exactly those times.
- Care plans failed 4 times out of 5 in testing. Same budget problem: the model's thinking used up the space, and the plan came back cut off. No one in production had made a care plan yet, so no user saw it. The first test after the fix made a 7-item plan in 16 seconds.
- A removed reminder time could still alert you. If you changed "60 minutes before" to "15 minutes before", the 60-minute alert stayed scheduled, because the backend wasn't allowed to list the scheduled alerts it needed to delete. AWS only allows listing schedules on every resource, and I had scoped the permission to schedules. It's fixed, and the sender now also skips any reminder time you've removed.
- Insight wording and report cards had the same budget setup. When insight wording got cut off, the app quietly fell back to plain template text. Both have proper limits now.
These went live on Oct 3.
1.1.1
Apple approved 1.1.1. I'm holding it until judging ends on Oct 13, so the App Store build stays the one in the video, and I'll release it on Oct 14. It brings iOS level with Android: Day Care, joining a household by scanning a QR code, the honest "you've run out" sheet and the new Help Center. It also adds the app-side fix for the request storm from the last update, and claiming a companion by scanning a QR code. Android is still on 1.1.0 and gets the same update after that.
In testing
These are in my test builds, not in either store yet:
- Speak instead of typing, in activity notes, Snap & Log notes and Ask Loonee.
- Add a description to any Day Care entry, typed or spoken, and captions to its photos.
- Share a scan as a link that shows its card when you paste it into a chat. The server side is live. The app side isn't in a store build yet.
Numbers
Last time I wrote that the Plus Annual trial from Sep 30 would become Loonee's first paid subscription around Oct 7 if the person kept it. They didn't cancel, but the first charge hasn't gone through. Billing grace period is on in App Store Connect, so Apple keeps retrying and they keep Plus while it does. Revenue is still $0.
A second person started a Plus Annual trial on Oct 10. It's the first one on Android, and it ends on Oct 17.
Getting it in front of people
- I started @loonee.app on Instagram on Oct 8. It posts one feature a day, and the first Reel went up on Oct 10.
