Inspiration

I was always looking for creative ways to motivate myself to go to the gym without relying mainly on willpower. I wanted to create a tool that basically leaves me no choice by blocking an important part of my daily life: social media. :)

What it does

LockFit blocks social media or any other distracting apps on your phone until GPS verifies that you went to the gym. After completing the workout, you receive a “key”, which gives you a certain amount of time to spend on distracting apps.

You can also choose to have between zero and four Jokers per month. A Joker gives temporary access to blocked apps without completing a workout.

How we built it

In the early stages, I used Claude Design and Claude Code to create a basic prototype and bring my vision to life. I then used Codex to turn it into a fully functioning app, including integrating the Google APIs, filtering gyms, and making the app-blocking overlays possible.

Challenges we ran into

It took Codex a very long time to fix one particular Google API problem. More generally, I realized that you cannot fully let AI take over the work. It is still very important to remain in control and know your code repository inside and out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am especially proud of successfully integrating the Google Maps API, filtering Google Places using keywords, and setting up the app-blocking overlays.

What we learned

I learned so much along the way. For example, I now understand the full structure and architecture of an app and everything around it. I can also confidently say that I know how to use Codex like a pro.

What's next for LockFit

Maybe I will bring LockFit to Google Play or the App Store in the future.
