Inspiration

The volatility of the modern job market often leaves professionals stranded without a clear roadmap after a layoff. We were inspired to build a "LifeBoat"—a high-integrity, autonomous tool that eliminates the panic of job loss by replacing uncertainty with a data-driven survival strategy.

What it does

LifeBoat.ai is an intelligent career survival engine designed to navigate the journey from job loss to acquisition. It operates on four core pillars:

Neural Resume Parsing: Extracts deep professional DNA from resumes using advanced AI models.
Strategic Job Discovery: Real-time job matching across India and global remote markets via live API feeds.
Financial Runway Planning: A precision survival calculator that visualizes your stability and runway months.
Localized Housing Discovery: Integration with real-time search to find PG and rental housing near target job hubs.

How we built it

Frontend: React.js with a premium "Silver Cloud Glass" aesthetic, powered by Vite and Framer Motion for micro-animations.
Backend: A robust Node.js/Express v5 architecture deployed as a monolith for maximum performance.
AI Layer: OpenRouter API integration for resume intelligence and career profile extraction.
Data Pipelines: Real-time integration with Adzuna (Jobs), Serper.dev (Market Data), and Nominatim (Geolocation).

Challenges we ran into

Production Routing: Migrating from Vercel’s serverless architecture to a monolithic Render deployment required solving complex Express v5 path-to-regexp wildcard issues.
State Management: Orchestrating the flow of data from a raw PDF upload to localized job discovery and financial modeling.
CORS & Environment Resilience: Building a robust backend that handles both VITE_ prefixed and standard environment variables across different cloud providers.
