Inspiration

My parents are construction labourers in Bangalore. Some days they find work, and many days they don't. When there is no work, our whole family struggles to survive.

I am the first person in my family to study this far, and I study in a government school. Every summer holiday I work next to my parents, so I have seen their problems up close: no steady work, waiting for owners to call, and not being sure they will be paid fairly.

I also saw the other side. Owners can't find reliable workers, and some lose money when a worker takes an advance and disappears. Nobody trusts anybody with money. I started LabourLink to fix this for workers like my parents.

What it does

LabourLink connects daily-wage workers, team leaders and owners (construction companies, officers and house owners) in one app.

  • Owners post a job as Individual, Team or Contract.
  • Workers can accept jobs near them, and team leaders can bring a whole team.
  • 5-Layer Payment Shield: the owner puts the full amount into the app before work starts, and the money stays locked. Each day both the owner and the worker confirm the work, and only then is that day's pay released. If there is a problem, a dispute freezes the remaining money, and work that isn't completed is refunded to the owner.
  • A trust score for every user, so good workers and good owners are rewarded.
  • Built for people who can't read well: big icons and buttons, and 22 Indian languages, with Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and English shown first.

How we built it

I built LabourLink alone, with no money for paid tools, using free AI tools (Claude and Gemini) and "vibe coding".

  • The app is built with Flutter, with Firebase for the database.
  • I designed the 5-layer payment logic and the trust score myself, based on the real fraud problems I saw: owners sending small advances to many leaders, and workers taking an advance and switching off their SIM.
  • I published a working web demo on Netlify.

Challenges we ran into

  • I have no money for subscriptions or paid AI tools. When my free daily limit ended in the afternoon, I waited until night and started again, and I kept doing this for more than two months.
  • I am a complete beginner, so I learned coding by reading, trying and fixing errors every day.
  • Firebase and Supabase signup problems slowed me down.
  • I only have one smartphone, a gift from my father, and I have no older brother or friend in tech to ask for help.
  • I can't publish on the Play Store yet because of the registration fee.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • I built 30+ working screens, from splash and job posting to wallet, chat and admin, completely alone.
  • I connected real data: jobs posted by an owner now appear live for workers.
  • I designed a payment protection system that solves real fraud problems I saw in my own family's world.
  • I put a live demo online even though I started with no money and no tech background.

What we learned

  • A big idea can be built step by step, one screen at a time.
  • The real problem in labour work is trust, more than finding jobs.
  • Good design for workers means pictures, big buttons and their own language.
  • When resources are small, daily effort and not giving up matter most.
  • Next, I want to publish on the Play Store, add real payments and OTP login, and test LabourLink with real workers.

What's next for Labourlink

Make the whole app switch language. Right now only the language picker exists. Use more pictures and fewer words, with big buttons everywhere. Add voice instructions in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi for people who can't read. Make it fast on cheap phones and slow internet. Add a worker photo and a work-proof photo each day.Price negotiation chat for Contract jobs. Ratings from both sides, notifications, and a map for job locatioFake accounts and disputes. You'll need KYC checks and one or two people for support, in local languages. Database security. Firebase test mode is open to everyone, so lock the rules before real users join. Play Store requirements. You need the one-time fee, a privacy policy, and possibly a closed test with several testers first. Check Google's current rules when you register

My vision is simple: make finding work safer, fairer, and easier for everyone.

LabourLink is being designed to connect three essential groups: Workers looking for opportunities, Team Leaders managing groups of workers, Owners looking to get work done

Here are some of the key features I'm building around this vision:

  1. 5-Layer Payment Shield — job-specific fund protection, daily work confirmation, dispute handling, and refund policies.

2.Three Job Modes — Individual, Team, and Contract, designed for different types of work.

  1. 22 Indian Languages — making the platform more accessible to people across India.

4.Trust Score System — encouraging reliability, accountability, and responsible behaviour.

5.Fair Rewards — planned ₹200 first-job cashback for eligible owners and workers, worker tipping, and team-leader commissions.

  1. Safety & Transparency — emergency contacts, transaction tracking, and a focus on protecting both sides of every job.

LabourLink isn't just about helping people find jobs. It's about building a system where trust comes first, payments are handled responsibly, and every worker gets the respect they deserve.

This is a work in progress, and I'm learning and improving with every step.

The mission: Connecting Workers. Building Futures.
