Inspiration

As someone relatively new to the city, I can relate to how difficult it can be to get around. Enjoying LA without a car can be challenging, with so much to see and many areas to explore. When I met my teammate Kish, an East Coast transplant who has lived in Los Angeles for over 25 years, we knew we couldn't resist the opportunity to create something special for the 2028 Olympics that combined practical innovation with the insight of seasoned Los Angeleno. While exploring ideas for our EV Drive-In project, we decided to lean into boldly developing our 2028 Olympic channel and digital tourist concierge platform, "LA Sherpa," a pedestrian-minded app that helps tourists navigate around the city of LA safely and provides event info, non-vehicular transport options, and reservation booking.

What It Does

LA Sherpa is an innovative mobile application designed to enhance the visitor experience for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. It serves as a comprehensive guide, offering:

  • Real-time event updates and live feeds
  • Intelligent transit information and navigation
  • Safety services with emergency assistance
  • A rewards program for engagement and local business promotion
  • Unique cultural experiences through movie location tours
  • Official Olympic merchandise shopping
  • Local store and rooftop party discovery features

How We Built It

We developed LA Sherpa using a modern tech stack:

  • Flask for the backend, ensuring scalability and rapid development
  • Bootstrap for responsive frontend design
  • Leaflet.js for interactive mapping features
  • Custom JavaScript for dynamic content and real-time updates
  • Integration with various APIs for live data feeds

Our development workflow is optimized for continuous integration and deployment, utilizing Replit's robust cloud infrastructure.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Integrating diverse data sources for real-time updates
  • Ensuring app performance during high-traffic Olympic events
  • Balancing feature richness with user-friendly design
  • Adhering to strict Olympic Committee guidelines and branding

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Created a comprehensive sustainability plan aligned with LA '28 Olympic goals
  • Developed an intuitive safety services feature with interactive mapping
  • Implemented a dynamic countdown timer to build excitement
  • Designed a rewards program that promotes local businesses and Olympic engagement

What We Learned

  • The importance of user-centric design in large-scale event applications
  • Strategies for handling and presenting real-time data effectively
  • Balancing entertainment features with essential services for a diverse user base
  • The complexities of integrating with Olympic systems and protocols

What's Next for LA Sherpa

  • Expand partnerships with local businesses and attractions
  • Implement AI-driven personalization for user experiences
  • Develop augmented reality features for venue navigation and event viewing
  • Explore integration with smart city initiatives for enhanced urban mobility
  • Extend the platform for future international sporting events

Currently, LA Sherpa is in prototype form, and we are seeking to raise seed funding to build out the full experience. By seamlessly blending technology with the vibrant culture of Los Angeles, we're not only enhancing visitor experiences but also creating a sustainable model for future global events. Our unique features, such as the movie locations tour and rooftop party locator, set us apart by showcasing LA's unique charm.

With a clear focus on sustainability, user engagement, and local economic impact, LA Sherpa is positioned to become an integral part of the LA '28 Olympics success story. We invite investors to join us in revolutionizing how people experience major international events, starting with the Olympic Games and expanding to a global stage.
