Inspiration
I want to build a community for people who love motorcycles and cars: a place to discover where to go, understand a ride and share something more meaningful than a top-speed number. Losing riders I knew made the question personal. Khopilot began with advance corner information and is growing into a platform shaped by the people who ride with it.
What it does
Khopilot combines route planning, spoken corner information, native motion data and a shareable record of the ride. It supports motorcycles and cars, CarPlay, offline regions and 18 interface languages.
The road ahead is analyzed for corner geometry. During a ride, spoken information reduces the need to inspect the screen. Afterwards, Sport, Comfort and Eco scores accompany the data actually recorded. A transparent route-summary PNG can sit over your own photograph in a story.
Corner references are estimates, not guaranteed safe speeds. Traffic, signs, weather, surface conditions and the driver's judgment take priority.
The 1.0.2 release
Version 1.0.2 is now publicly available on the App Store. It brings the next step toward a community built around the ride:
- Understand your ride: explore your saved route on a larger map and filter recorded events to see where they happened.
- Make your profile yours: keep your chosen layout and decide who can see each ride.
- Compare more than speed: explore Sport, Comfort and Eco stage rankings, with motorcycle and car views and monthly or all-time results.
- Reach new milestones: build a collection of achievements as you ride and improve.
- Find your next destination: discover places within a driving-distance range, with suggestions shaped by community contributions.
- Share your ride your way: publish a route summary, control which private areas appear on the shared map, and share a customizable ride sticker for Instagram Stories or save it as a PNG.
- See more of the road: a smaller route-preview card leaves more space for your route.
How we built it
React Native, Expo and TypeScript provide the application layer. Swift handles native surfaces including CarPlay and motion integration. MapLibre renders offline Protomaps/OpenStreetMap data; our backend proxies routing to our OSRM service. MapKit and WeatherKit supply Apple platform capabilities. RevenueCat manages subscriptions, entitlements and restores.
One challenge is making telemetry understandable. Motion measurements, GPS-derived estimates and unavailable data have different provenance. The interface distinguishes these so riders can understand what a number represents.
Monetization
RevenueCat powers weekly and annual auto-renewable Pro subscriptions. Current store prices and eligible offers are shown before purchase.
In the current release, personal ride history and available recorded analysis are free. A fixed route-summary image is free to share. Pro lets riders choose its statistics and adds ride modes, discovery and offline coverage. This keeps personal data accessible while giving the subscription a clear customization role.
Challenges and lessons
Keeping a ride intact through interruptions was one of the hardest engineering challenges. The record needs to remain useful after the screen locks, connectivity changes or the app returns to the foreground.
Community stages add another challenge: comparing one section of a ride without exposing someone's entire private route. Stage intervals are scored independently, and private contributions are presented without linking the public entry to the person's ride.
What's next
Learn which destinations people return to, which ride insights they find useful and what they choose to share. Use that feedback to improve discovery and grow a community for motorcycle and car enthusiasts.
