Inspiration

Hi, I want to create an application that addresses the challenges of job searching and streamlines the process for job seekers, particularly those who have been laid off and those just starting their careers in the tech industry this 2023. πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ’»

What it doesβ€”MVP Features

  1. Job Security Dashboard - This feature would rate the user's current job security based on factors such as company stability, industry trends, and economic indicators. Users could enter information about their job and company, and the application would provide a score indicating their level of job security. Additionally, the application could suggest ways to improve job security, such as pursuing additional education or developing new skills.
  2. Visible Prospects - aka Visible Job Market, This feature suggests job openings based on the user's skills, work history, and preferences. Users can enter their job preferences, such as location and industry, and the application will provide personalized job recommendations. The application may also use machine learning algorithms to improve recommendation accuracy over time. The feature is named after the "Visible Job Market" itself, which refers to job postings typically found in local newspaper advertisements, job centres, career fairs, vacancy boards, and recruitment agencies.

How we built it

I aim to present a complete application with the 2 MVP features. In this case, After the Theme research, I produced and gathered all the needed assets from Adobe Illustrator, and started assembling the UX/UI components on Figma, ultimately finalizing and cleaning a complete prototype.

Challenges we ran into

My attempt at creating a dark-themed design system for the mobile application was a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I have been wanting to participate in a hackathon since my first term in my program, and being able to join the BCIT Hack the Break 2023 before graduating from school is an accomplishment for me.

What we learned

Time is crucial, and I'll be with a team next time.

What's next for KARA Application

To stay true to the value proposition, in addition to the two mentioned features, the following could be implemented over the long run:

  1. Job Application Tracker - This feature would help users keep track of the status of their job applications, including follow-up tasks and interview schedules. Users could enter information about their job applications, and the application would provide reminders for follow-up tasks and interview schedules. The application could also provide insights on which companies are hiring and which industries are growing.
  2. Career Development Planner - This feature would help users set career goals and create actionable steps to achieve them, such as networking, attending conferences, or pursuing additional education. Users could set up a career plan and track their progress over time. The application could also provide suggestions for career development opportunities based on the user's interests and goals.

In addition to the previous statement, an application roadmap could be developed by a team to ensure that the development and testing are aligned with this project's goals. This would include an analysis of the current market trends and user needs to identify key features and functionalities that would make KARA stand out from competitors. Moreover, extensive user testing could be conducted to ensure that the application meets the needs and preferences of the target audience. Finally, the team could also conduct a feasibility study to determine the technical requirements and limitations of KARA to ensure that it is scalable, secure, and efficient.
