🌡️ Inspiration

Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for children, older adults, outdoor workers, and other vulnerable people.

We wanted to build something that does more than just show the temperature. We wanted to help people understand how risky the heat is and what they can do to stay safe.

That idea led us to create HeatShield AI.

💡 What We Built

HeatShield AI is a web-based platform that helps users understand their local heat risk.

It uses factors such as weather conditions, location, time of day, and vulnerability to provide a clearer picture of heat risk.

The platform provides:

  • Heat-risk information
  • Weather details
  • Risk levels
  • Safety recommendations
  • Information for vulnerable groups
  • Nearby cooling and water-support options

⚙️ How It Works

The basic flow is:

Location + Weather Data → Risk Analysis → Risk Level → Safety Recommendations

Instead of only showing temperature, HeatShield AI turns the information into simple and useful actions.

For example, when heat risk is high, users can be advised to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activity, take breaks in cooler places, and take extra care of vulnerable people.

🛠️ How We Built It

We built HeatShield AI as an interactive web application with a simple dashboard.

The project combines weather and location information with heat-risk analysis and presents the results in an easy-to-understand way.

We also added practical features such as safety recommendations and cooling/water-support information.

📚 What We Learned

While building this project, we learned how to:

  • Turn a real-world problem into a working project
  • Work with weather and location-based information
  • Build an interactive web application
  • Combine different features into one platform
  • Present complex information in a simple way
  • Think about real users and their needs

🚧 Challenges

One of our main challenges was deciding how to calculate and present heat risk.

Temperature alone does not tell the complete story. Heat risk can also depend on factors such as location, time, weather conditions, and vulnerability.

Another challenge was making the interface simple enough for anyone to understand while still providing useful information.

🌍 Future Scope

In the future, HeatShield AI could be improved with:

  • More accurate heat-risk prediction
  • Real-time alerts
  • Mobile notifications
  • Multilingual support
  • Better community heat maps
  • More accurate cooling-center and water-point information

🎯 Our Goal

Our goal is simple:

Don't just tell people how hot it is. Help them understand the risk and know what to do.

HeatShield AI — Predict. Protect. Prevent.
