Inspiration

Our journey began with a deep concern for the inefficiencies in the healthcare system. We saw patients struggling to schedule appointments, especially in rural areas, and managing their medications. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the urgent need for reliable telemedicine solutions and effective health communication. These challenges inspired us to create a solution to bridge these gaps and enhance patient care.

What it does

Our envisioned app, HealthPal, aims to simplify appointment scheduling, facilitate telemedicine consultations, and manage comprehensive health records. It includes features for medication reminders and real-time health alerts, ensuring patients stay informed and proactive about their health. HealthPal is designed to improve access to healthcare, reduce no-show rates, and enhance overall patient satisfaction.

How we built it

We are using the Flutter framework to build because it has numerous plugins and packages that can be easily integrated into our app like Google Maps API and Open Street API which we need. We will also use Android Studio for an Android emulator to develop and preview the app on an Android device, but we are currently developing it on the web. Its capability to create cross-platform mobile apps (iOS and Android) with a single codebase will help when we want to scale our app. We are going to use Firebase for authentication, database, and notifications. With one account, we can handle all these functionalities in Firebase rather than using multiple tools. We will use Agora.io for video calls because of its reliable and scalable infrastructure, ensuring high-quality video communication.

Challenges we ran into

During our planning phase, we identified several potential challenges. Designing an intuitive interface that caters to users of all age groups requires extensive research and testing. Ensuring data security and privacy is paramount, necessitating robust encryption and compliance with healthcare regulations. Integrating our system with existing healthcare infrastructures poses additional hurdles, as does addressing the varied needs of rural and urban populations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Even at this early stage, we are proud of the comprehensive solution we have envisioned with HealthPal. We have developed a well-thought-out plan that addresses key healthcare challenges, offering a seamless experience for appointment scheduling, telemedicine, and medication management. We are also proud of our commitment to data security and user privacy, ensuring that patient information will be handled with the utmost care.

What we learned

Throughout this journey, we learned about the profound impact of healthcare inefficiencies on patient outcomes. We gained insights into the importance of timely information and guidance during emergencies and health crises.

What's next for HealthPal

we plan to move from the presentation phase to the development phase, bringing HealthPal to life. We aim to enhance our telemedicine capabilities and explore partnerships with healthcare providers to broaden our reach. Our goal is to develop HealthPal into a valuable tool for promoting good health and well-being for all.
