Homi

Inspiration

The real estate investing disparity among everyday consumers due to its high cost of entry and time usage motivated us to tap into this imbalance and grant all consumers access to invest in real estate as efficiently as investing in stocks and crypto. Our team also wished to make the experience of real estate investing as simple as possible, leading to our simple and intuitive selection screen.

What it does

Homi brings real estate investing to the masses with fractional real estate investing made simple. Through the app, users will be able to find a property they would like to invest in and buy “slices” or fractional equity shares of the home in hopes of their investment increasing. The user experience of the app is based on the easily navigable UX of dating apps, where liking a home will give you recommendations for more houses with similar attributes.

How we built it

We started this project in Illustrator, creating icons and color themes as a base. With these created, we moved into Adobe XD where we created artboards for the various pages that would be a part of this app and animations to transition between pages. We concluded the project by creating a video demo in Final Cut Pro and a hero image in Photoshop.

Challenges we ran into

Through the process of creating an idea to building a final project, we came across many challenges from finding a creative solution to one of the tracks to agreeing on an app idea. But by working together and understanding each other’s viewpoints we proudly have created Homi.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Throughout this weekend, we are incredibly proud of our ability to work together and use our prior knowledge of application competitions to brainstorm creative solutions to world problems such as the real estate investment disparity.

What we learned

As a team, we significantly improved our teamwork skills. Despite being given a limited time, we put our creative minds to use and create an app that cuts down on a disparity that affects many. We also learned how difficult it is to enter the real estate investing world with its high entry cost and time commitment. Working on a tight schedule like this one, we had to learn to quickly distinguish between what would be necessary and excessive in the app.

What's next for Homi

Although Homi is still a concept app, we will be pitching the idea to a panel of investors this school year in our NOVUS Club at 1871 Chicago near the end of May 2022.

BusiHacks Motives and Value

We believe that Homi greatly embodies BusiHack’s initiative to empower the youth in business and tech through its simplistic method of fractional real estate investing all located in a convenient and easy-to-use mobile application.
