Games that involve collecting virtual items. My goal for groo is to give a sense of accomplishment to users when they collect the different plants so that they continue to use the app and build good financial practices in the long-run.

What it does

groo is a personal finance app that lets its users track their transactions and earn plants at the same time. In the process, users grow their forest AND their savings.

How I built it

  • The prototype was built using Figma
  • The illustrations were drawn and created using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

Challenges I ran into

  • Coming up with an idea that uses gamification while still having an emphasis on finance
  • Figuring out the structure and layout of the UI

Creating all of the illustrations for the app (minus the icons)

What I learned

A lot about existing finance apps and what they do

What's next for groo

  • Currently groo is a free app with lots of ads, so the next step is to figure out a premium plan
  • A way to connect with other users on the app to share your forest/progress
  • More plants
