Inspiration
Indie filmmakers' biggest obstacles are pre-production and how they manage the budget before they roll cameras. I wanted these small creative teams to have a smarter approach to managing these expenses by giving them a tool that can turn their idea into a shootable project
What it does
Greenlit AI is a production planner that can track costs, including Cast, Locations, Catering, and Equipment. It can also search maps to find different filming locations based on the script scenes. It also includes an AI chat assistant that can help answer questions.
How we built it
We built the app using a Node/Express API, a browser-based UI, and external APIs for AI and location data. It also uses a lot of HTML for the structure and JavaScript for interactions.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was getting our AI assistant to work properly. The script and budget work together so the AI can give accurate production advice. This feature took a lot of trial and error to figure out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having a polished dashboard that has incredible features. We hope that these features will be helpful for future filmmakers.
What we learned
We learned a lot about integrating AI features into a web dashboard and why planning out AI prompts early in a hackathon is important.
What's next for Greenlit AI
We wish to expand the platform to include team collaboration features and even more budget scheduling tools.
