Inspiration π‘
To tackle the climate crisis, we need big policy changes. But we also need tools in our daily lives that help us do better. Green Ride is here to make your life a bit more sustainable.
What it does β
Green Ride lets you track your everyday mobility and the emissions associated with it. This insight lets you cut these emissions. And in situations where you can't, it offsets these emissions for you.
How we built it βοΈ
We used Flutter to build a cross-platform app that looks great on all devices. We use the Cloverly API to get a precise estimate of the emissions that were associated with the ride. The API also lets us offset these emissions. Additionally it provides us with detailed information about where the offset money was invested. The app follows the KISS design principle (Keep it simple and stupid). This way we can make sure that the app is accessible for anyone. All you need is a credit card.
Challenges we ran into π
Tracking location updates when the app is in the background (the phone is locked) is quite tricky and highly dependent on the host operating system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of π
Our app is app is appealing to use, simple and serves a clear purpose.
What we learned π¨π½βπ
We improved our Flutter skill set especially around building animations and appealing UIs.
What's next for Green Ride π
