Inspiration

The serious goal of this game is to encourage players to produce their own food at home to improve sustainable consumption. Benchmark games include Catan, Vicious Gardens, and Overcooked.

What it does

Players compete to buy produce and plant seeds. The first one to make three meals from the set recipes is the winner! Be careful though, because other players can steal your resources, or your crops can get wiped out by a flood! Real seeds are also included with the game to give players a means to bring the inspiration into the real world.

How we built it

Started with brainstorming and sketching, then made and playtested three paper prototypes, each one iterating on the last. We began graphic design in Figma and Illustrator to create print-ready materials.

Challenges we ran into

Time! Not enough time to get materials printed as we hoped. We also hoped to digitize the resource tracking system to make it easier for players to manage their resources, but this will have to come down the road.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully going through four playtesting-based iterations and getting print-ready materials made in 24 hours. Going all out on accessibility, not just meeting AA standards for contrast but meeting AAA for all text.

What we learned

Great insight into the iteration process through doing so many paper prototypes and playtesting sessions within the time limit. Taking all kinds of ideas and narrow and incorporating them into a fleshed out game in 24 hours.

What's next for Go Garden!

Printing the game, and implementing the digital resource tracking system in Rive to make tracking resources as simple as one click.
