Inspiration
We don't know what lies beyond our world, as the universe and even multiverses go far back into endless possibilities. Infinity will eventually reach the point where it starts to break down, and fragmentize and glitch as it doesn't know what to do. So realities would converge and combine, at the central point at the end of time at a doorway which has the capabilities to lead to anywhere your heart desires. It is inspired by all the different versions of us, kind of like in the movie everywhere everyone all at once.
What it does
It is an world in the lens of an album cover, where the world is so unstable that it reacts to touch and can change and break down. It is meant to embody and represents the hidden layers beneath the surface, and that we do not see everything as there is always somethings, which could be good or bad hidden beneath the surface. There is a light feeling of distortion and for something to be going wrong
How we built it
The scene was designed in photoshop with reference to a door that is the root of this reality breaking down. The glitch and breaking down of reality is coded and designed in after effects and premiere pro to create the sounds. The physical inversion and changing of reality is coded using p5js.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was developing an idea connected to different realities, because the concept was open to interpretation and involved unfamiliar, emerging technology. Translating an abstract idea into a visual experience was difficult. The coding was also challenging, especially trying to create the feeling of warping and manipulating reality through the viewer's interaction.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of creating a design that feels otherworldly, unstable, and as if it is slowly breaking apart. The artwork captures a sense of reality being on the verge of collapse. I am also proud of the execution, as it successfully creates an eerie atmosphere while giving the viewer the ability to bend and alter reality through their own actions. I learned much more about coding with p5.js and how it can be used to transform art into an interactive experience. Instead of creating something static, I discovered how code can allow me to control environments, create reactions, and shape experiences based on how the viewer interacts with the artwork. I also learned how to create immersive scenes that appear three-dimensional while being built in a 2D space using digital art tools such as Photoshop.
What's next for fRaCtaL
fRaCtaL will continue to explore beyond what we see and dive deeper into the unknown. It aims to uncover hidden layers of reality, questioning what is familiar and revealing new perspectives through interactive digital experiences.
