Inspiration

We wanted to spark social change because of what we see in our community around food insecurity for students. Our goal was to make a website that is more digestible for informing other young adults about information and solutions while also providing help for student in need.

What it does

Brain Food is a website that provides resources to students with food insecurity. On Brain Food students can find affordable recipes, food banks near them in North America, statistics on food insecurity and a page where they can find grocery store sales near them. Our ultimate goal is to provide a safe place for students struggling with food insecurity.

How we built it

We started off with a hand-drawn Figma wireframe, then we started building our website on Repl.it with HTML, CSS and Javascript. We also made a logo using Adobe Illustrator.

Challenges we ran into

We had run into some difficult challenges with CSS, however, we overcame them by working together and isolating the issue with patience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are so proud of our map installed on the home page, the logo, the recipe page, the research and the design. We worked so hard on Brain Food and put a lot of effort and time into it.

What we learned

We learned much more about food insecurity and how it is a lot more common than we thought. We also learned how to work together despite our different time zones and united to spark social change and helping students in need.

What's next for Brain Food

The next steps for Brain Food is becoming a real organization and making the sale finder page useable. We are also planning on translating the website into different languages, creating a mobile app for Brain Food, adding a chat feature, and expanding the map feature to the whole world.
