Inspiration
My partner and I were arguing about where to eat one day, and when the Hackathon began, we thought we should create a project that helped us decide where to eat.
What it does
The desktop application uses a geo location api to find your coordinates based on your ip address and then query the yelp api for the best-rated restaurants in that area. The first user is prompted with 5 restaurants and they then rank them based on how much they want to go. The next user ranks theirs and the highest average is displayed along with the address.
How we built it
We built it using location and yelp APIs. We used python to make a desktop application that gets and displays the data.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into trouble when it came to the GUI. We had issues with the drop-down menu and the submission button. Other than that, everything else ran smoothly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The GUI was designed using tkinter which none of us had experience with. It took a while, but we were eventually able to create successful scenes to display our project
What we learned
We learned the importance of planning ahead to avoid confusion. We also learned that breaks are important, especially when you are stuck.
What's next for Food Finder
We plan to continue to work on the project over time to make it more visually pleasing and run smoother with more options.
