Inspiration
Food waste and hunger are two major challenges in our society. Restaurants, hotels, college canteens, and other food providers often have surplus edible food, while NGOs, shelters, and community kitchens need food to support people in need. We were inspired to build Food Bridge AI, a smart platform that connects surplus food providers with organizations that can distribute it to people in need.
What it does
Food Bridge AI is an intelligent food redistribution platform that connects food providers with verified NGOs, shelters, and community kitchens.
The platform provides features such as:
- Surplus Food Registration: Food providers can register available food with quantity, location, and expiry details.
- AI Recipient Matching: The system identifies suitable recipients based on distance, capacity, availability, and food requirements.
- Instant Notifications: Recipients receive notifications when suitable food becomes available.
- Pickup Scheduling: Helps coordinate food collection between providers and recipients.
- Handover Verification: Records successful food transfers to improve transparency and reliability.
- Impact Analytics: Tracks donations, meals served, and food waste reduced.
How we built it
We built Food Bridge AI using modern web technologies with an AI-based matching system and database management. The platform was designed with separate modules for food registration, recipient management, intelligent matching, notifications, pickup scheduling, and impact tracking.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was creating an effective matching system that could connect available food with suitable recipients within a limited time. We also faced challenges in managing food expiry times, coordinating pickups, maintaining accurate information, and ensuring reliable communication between food providers and recipient organizations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of developing a complete solution that addresses a real-world social problem. Our project combines AI and web technologies to make food redistribution more organized and efficient. We successfully designed features for food registration, intelligent matching, notifications, pickup coordination, handover verification, and impact tracking.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how to convert a real-world problem into a practical technology solution. We gained experience in AI-based matching, web development, database management, user interface design, system architecture, and teamwork. We also learned the importance of designing technology around real user needs.
What's next for Food Bridge AI
In the future, we plan to improve the AI matching system, add real-time location and route optimization, integrate more NGOs and food providers, introduce mobile application support, and provide advanced analytics to measure the social and environmental impact of food redistribution.
