Inspiration

After the pandemic, the people in my community and myself have seemed to enter a lull in positive interactions. The people I care about around me are crankier, sluggish, and overall becoming unhealthy. At the end of all the complaining, it seems to stem from the lack of positive stimulation and movement. Recently, I hurt my back just by walking the stairs on my campus and it affected me mentally more than any minor injury ever has done. That's when I knew I and many others needed to implement a soft yoga or stretching routine back into our lives to positively impact physical and mental health to stop and potentially reverse the decline.

What it does

After a user sends a text to the phone number, the SMS service sends the users 3 routines to choose from depending on what they want to focus on at the moment. Intermittent stretches, breathing exercises, and mental cooldowns are effective tools that keep the mind and body from fatigue damage.

How we built it

The SMS service was created using Twilio studios by configuring a widget structure and using JavaScript functions. The website was created in Visual Studio with HTML and CSS and cloned to my GitHub repository to be hosted. The domain was provided by domain.com and connected to GitHub by connecting the DNS. The vector images were licensed from adobe stock and I made the vector logo in Adobe Illustrator.

Challenges we ran into

The main issue I had was running out of time and learning to use Twilio. I wanted a functioning chat-bot so I put some ideas on hold for the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

My main goal for the hackathon was to enjoy myself and work on skills I wanted to play around with and grow which I accomplished. The main points I took away from this experience was I can create something I'd actually use and enjoy developing it. Two small victories were connecting my custom domain and having the website display properly on desktop and mobile.

What we learned

I learned to my manage expectations, and new interactions on Twilio and GitHub. This was the first time I had ever linked a custom domain to a GitHub website and I'm glad I pulled it off quicker than expected.

What's next for Flexes

The next feature for Flexes would be storing data and incorporating data information graphics in the SMS messages on how many routines a user has completed and what types. I'd also like to expand the choices of routines, from skin care to flossing.
