Inspiration
"Fix The City" was inspired by the pressing need to address the myriad urban challenges communities face, including deteriorating infrastructure, public safety concerns, and ineffective governance. Observing the frustrations of citizens who felt unheard and powerless in the face of these issues motivated us to create a platform that empowers individuals to report problems and engage effectively with local authorities.
What it does
- A mobile app that allows users to:
- Report local issues (e.g., potholes, broken streetlights, waste management problems).
- Categorize complaints, upload images, and pinpoint locations.
- Features:
- Direct communication with relevant government departments.
- AI-powered image processing to:
- Automatically categorize issues.
- Prioritize complaints based on urgency.
- Image compression for faster report submission.
- Ensures critical problems are addressed promptly.
How we built it
- Technologies used:
- Frontend: Flutter for cross-platform compatibility (Android & iOS).
- Backend: Firebase for real-time data storage and user authentication.
- Programming language: Dart.
- State management: Provider.
- Location services: OpenStreetMap API
- AI component: Image processing for:
- Categorizing issues.
- Assessing urgency.
- Image compression to reduce upload times and improve performance.
- Offline feature for submitting complaints in areas without internet access.
Challenges we ran into
- Ensuring user-friendly design for diverse demographics.
- Optimizing performance on lower-end devices.
- Building trust with government entities for effective communication.
- Training AI models for image processing to ensure accuracy.
Accomplishments we're proud of
- Successfully launched the app with an intuitive interface.
- Established partnerships with local municipalities for:
- Direct communication between citizens and government departments.
- AI implementation that:
- Accurately categorizes issues.
- Prioritizes complaints based on urgency.
