Inspiration
The inspiration behind this piece was challenging ourselves to use campus resources and unconventional media to create something that transitions between two dimensional and three dimensional. We thought that we could capture this best through the movement and fluidity of a water and koi scene. Viewing a pond is a two dimensional experience but the meaning comes from the understanding of the three dimensionality of the water's depth.
What it does
It's a simple visual structure.
How we built it
We 3D modeled the form in Rhino and cut a series of sections in order to extract outlines of the form. We then imported these outlines into Illustrator and laser cut these shapes into acrylic sheets. By layering and painting these acrylic sheets, we created a depth of visual information and detail that layer together to create a cohesive design.
