posted an update —

Ever Able made several changes from the first build to the final version we have now. These things were mainly found during the beta testing phase. As I was using the app with my daughter, I was able to see how it actually worked for the child and the parent customizing the app. Two changes specifically come to mind.

One is originally we had just one day customizable that would automatically repeat each day and could be customized. I found it challenging to have to go in every day and update it. It was especially hard when it went from a Friday to a Saturday because those days look very different. Also, having reoccurring appointments like therapy would be really helpful to put in on a specific day, and then the next week that would already be included on the schedule. So we changed the app to allow to plan out a week at a time, and the week would automatically repeat. I really like this as it helped reduce the stress of having to update the app every morning before giving it to my daughter. I also really liked that it encouraged me to look at the whole week while I was updating it and helped me to plan my week with more intention.

The second change that really made an impact was reducing the number of screens the child has to click through to complete the task and get to the next screen. Originally, after a task was complete, the child would have to click three or four buttons before returning to the main task page. When my daughter had to do this, it was like a huge mental load. It fatigued her and she didn't enjoy clicking the button all done, even with the confetti on the screen. We reduced this to click I'm done, and the confetti immediately displays and returns to the main screen. Now she loves clicking the button, and it doesn't require any extra effort from her. It has been working out really well.
