Inspiration

A lot of my peers don't consider electric cars because of the myths that they are too expensive or don't save any gas money. I wanted to create this app to simplify the process by generating accurate calculations unlike for-profit business or other resources that generalize gas prices. I hope that this visualization helps more people switch to electric vehicles, helping our planet heal from decreased carbon emissions and healthier neighborhoods for children.

What it does

This App takes in user data (mpg, gas costs, mileage) to calculate how much they could save in a year. In states like California, the number is much greater than EPA estimations. The app also includes a page with graphics letting users know the other perks of an electric vehicle.

How we built it

I used Xcode as my platform and Swift as my language. My graphics were made with Adobe Illustrator.

Challenges we ran into

In the middle of the night I couldn't figure out how to import images into Xcode to be used, I woke up the next day remembering I could just add it to my assets. I also ran into errors regarding nil values, which I had to go on online forums to solve.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that I was able to make an app that's bug free and runs smoothly and is simple to use. It's something I calculate a lot for my family or friends as conversational, and this app makes it much easier to visualize it for them.

What we learned

I've built on my skills I've learned in my Swift Programming class here at CSUF and I've pushed myself to explore the view controller for I/O of user data as my projects in class have them built in. I've also improved my patience and problem solving skills.

What's next for EV Savings

I want to include even more features and calculations to make my calculations even more accurate such as utility rates at different times, or kilowatt-hour/mile efficiency ratings of electric vehicles to account for more (or less) savings. I also want to add even more subpages to further show the benefits of switching to an electric vehicle.
