Inspiration

I built EcoTrack AI to address a critical gap between environmental awareness and real-world action. While many people care about sustainability, they often lack clarity on how their daily habits contribute to their overall carbon footprint. Sustainability tends to remain an abstract concept, making it difficult for individuals to measure, track, and improve their impact.

My goal was to design a system that transforms sustainability into a data-driven, measurable, and actionable experience. By combining structured data tracking with intelligent insights, EcoTrack AI empowers users to understand their behavior, make informed decisions, and gradually adopt more eco-friendly lifestyles.

What it does

EcoTrack AI is an AI-powered sustainability tracking platform that enables users to monitor, analyze, and optimize their environmental impact.

The application allows users to:

  • Log daily activities such as transport, energy usage, food consumption, and waste generation
  • Calculate their carbon footprint using a structured and rule-based carbon estimation model
  • Visualize their impact through interactive analytics dashboards, including weekly and monthly trends
  • Receive AI-driven insights and recommendations based on behavioral patterns
  • Set personalized sustainability goals and track their progress in real time
  • Engage with gamification features such as Eco Score, badges, and progression levels

Overall, the platform converts sustainability from a passive concept into an interactive and continuously improving system.


How I built it

I developed EcoTrack AI using a modular and scalable architecture with a strong emphasis on performance and usability.

  • Built using Base44, enabling rapid full-stack web application development
  • Designed structured data models for capturing and storing user activity inputs
  • Implemented a carbon calculation engine using emission factor logic and category-based weighting
  • Developed an analytics layer with dynamic charts, trend comparisons, and visual breakdowns
  • Created an AI Insights module using rule-based inference, trend analysis, and behavioral pattern recognition *Integrated a gamification system including Eco Score computation, rewards, and user progression *Designed a clean and responsive UI/UX system optimized for accessibility and user engagement

The system simulates intelligent behavior through data-driven logic and feedback loops, ensuring meaningful user interaction without relying on heavy external dependencies.


Challenges I ran into

One of the primary challenges was designing a carbon footprint estimation model that balances accuracy with usability. Real-world emissions depend on numerous dynamic variables, making it difficult to simplify without losing relevance.

Another challenge was implementing an AI-like recommendation system without access to large-scale datasets or machine learning infrastructure. To overcome this, I engineered a rule-based system combined with trend analysis to generate context-aware insights.

Additionally, integrating multiple modules such as tracking, analytics, and gamification required careful system design to maintain performance efficiency, modularity, and seamless user experience.


Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of successfully building a comprehensive sustainability platform within a limited timeframe.

What's next

Moving forward, I plan to enhance EcoTrack AI with more advanced capabilities:

  • Integrating real-time carbon data through external APIs
  • Upgrading the AI system to a machine learning-based predictive model
  • Implementing location-based recommendations using geospatial analysis
  • Adding automated tracking through IoT integrations
  • Expanding into a community-driven sustainability platform with collaborative features.
  • Featuring or collaborating with other UN SDGs for impactful output.

The long-term vision is to build a system that not only tracks sustainability but actively drives global behavioral change and measurable environmental impact.
