Inspiration

The inspiration for EcoRides comes from the urgent need to address climate change and urban air pollution caused by transportation. Many individuals travel solo, leading to increased carbon emissions and traffic congestion. I wanted to create a platform that not only promotes eco-friendly travel habits but also builds communities by encouraging shared rides. Our vision was to make sustainability accessible and practical for everyone.

What it does

EcoRides is an all-in-one solution for eco-conscious travelers.

Helps users plan their journeys with the least environmental impact. Enables users to connect and travel together to reduce solo rides. Gives real-time insights on air quality to help users make informed travel decisions. Recommends green travel alternatives, such as cycling or public transport, when available.

How we built it

Developed with React for a responsive and user-friendly experience. Integrated OpenStreetMap for precise mapping and route visualization. Built with Node.js and Express for robust server-side functionality. Used OpenCage Geocoding API for location-based services.

Challenges we ran into

Map Rendering Issues: Ensuring accurate route display and marker placement on OpenStreetMap. User-Friendly Design: Balancing advanced functionalities with simplicity to cater to a wide audience. Real-Time Data Accuracy: Keeping air quality and geolocation data up-to-date.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrating real-time air quality data with map-based ride planning. Building a platform that merges sustainability with community building. Developing a visually appealing and functional interface within a short timeframe. Overcoming technical hurdles to ensure accurate and reliable map and geolocation features.
