Inspiration: A shocking statistic about the aviation community and the unsustainable levels of carbon emissions: 1% of the world's population are frequent fliers and are responsible for 50% of carbon emissions in the aviation community.
What our project does: Our project creates a hybrid model between present-day turbine technology and futuristic electric propulsion systems.
How we built it: We used the theoretical process of thermoelectric generators which features conduction and convection processes to charge on-board electrical needs. Then we created a model to represent the improved sustainability that such a process will produce.
We had to overcome the need for a more sustainable aviation environment despite the limits of current technologies, namely the non-starter of heavy batteries in a fully electric plane.
We are proud of finding a practical solution through the use of our team member's diverse backgrounds to solve a global issue.
We learned how to value the different perspectives of each team member to fully understand an issue. This process was necessary for discovering such a robust solution.
What's next for Eco Flyers: we will gain a deeper knowledge in the field of renewable electrical power and advancing aviation theories.
