Inspiration
Noah's sister has recently graduated from college, and she was telling him that she finds it difficult to make time to eat, and know that she is always going to be within her budget, so we came up with the idea of an app that takes your food preferences and food budget, reminds you when you have free time to eat, and gives you suggestions of places you could eat nearby that suit your needs.
What it does
The app currently allows a new user to sign up, submit their preferences, and view locations that are nearby.
How I built it
The app was built using React Native.
Challenges I ran into
Almost everything seemed to cause a challenge - from finding the correct APIs to use, to having to constantly revert changes as they caused some function of the app not to work.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Each of us is proud of something different, as we all had varying levels of experience with the tools that we used. Maya was proud that she was able to design the logo and UI in software that she had not used before. Rick was proud that he was able to contribute to the project, as React Native is new to him. Isamu was proud of himself as he was able to bring a very useful task management strategy to the table that he learnt in one of his classes. Noah was proud of the restaurant page, as he spent a long time trying to make sure he included all of the content in a way that used the screen space well.
What I learned
We all learned that it's very easy to get ahead of yourself, and sleep is more important than you think.
What's next for EatHarmony
The next step for this project is to link the user's Google calendar to the app in order to automatically find the times that they are free to eat.
