Inspiration
We were inspired by the concept of storytelling, creating a bridge between a book and a movie. We wanted to create a new way to
What it does
It's an interactive book that has a gaming component. We wanted each page to have its own level and in order to advance you'd have to either interact or resolve the puzzle.
How we built it
We used Unity with Meta Blocks + OpenXr. We built our own models and created our own scenes. We animated a talking head using AR and also used some unity animation.
Challenges we ran into
Mixed reality is a great canvas but developing meaningful ways to deploy any sort of interaction felt as an obstacle. So… We learned that finding user cases for mixed reality is a key challenge.
AR was underperforming while VR was working fine. So… Mixing both VR and MR gave us opportunity to interact with the user in a new and meaningful way.
The story has to be crafted with features in mind, not having these made the job quite difficult. So… We learned to rely heavily on already tested concepts.
Using known objects makes the user experience easier to understand: we all know how to open and close a book and how to advance. So… We relied heavily on these easy interactions.
Time is key. So... We appreciate the lack of experience has led us prioritising things that should’ve not been on top of the list.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to have a lovely book, made some cool features, developed the concept of story and built into it. We weren't familiar with MR so we had to learn it.
What we learned
We struggled with time and with gave less priority to more important pieces. We could've optimised our time and we could've focus more on a more prototype stage rather than finishing up most of our concepts in details. We didn't appoint anyone as project manager so we lost track of time.
What's next for e-wolve
We made a strong bond together and we realised how cool is to work on some project together. We will stay in touch and possibly create something with more time!
