Inspiration

Every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. More sexual harassment claims in the U.S. are filed in the restaurant industry than in any other, whereas many as 90% of women reportedly experience some form of sexual harassment. Paying homage to the strength and grit that Demeter embodies in the greek story of Persephone and Hades, we came up with a solution. If women could take a stand for themselves by telling their stories based on locations they've visited, we would better be able to triangulate locations where these circumstances happen in large numbers.

What it does

It will help women to connect with communities that can empower their educational, economic, social, equality, etc. It's integrated with a reviewing system, which will enable the women to share their experiences. There is a short story section that enables the reader to gain the required motivation and confidence. It is also integrated with a map that consists of certain past experiences of the women, which they have faced at a particular location.

How we built it

We have used HTML5, CSS3, SASS for the Front-End, Javascript, Custom Google APIs for the backend, Firebase for Database and Authentication.

Challenges we ran in

We were facing some database issues as it was not reflecting once the data has been uploaded. The big challenge was to find the communities which are well renowned.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have built the entire site in such a short amount of time taking into consideration the seamless UI/UX of the site along with integrating the maps API, etc. which was quite a new experience for us. We have dug deep into the javascript to create the entire site

What we learned

We have learned about the problems faced by women in their daily lives. Came to know about the UN Women and other women-centric organizations and NGOs.

Technical : Learned to append the real-time reviews, using the firebase database. Use Google Maps API to view the experiences of women at certain places. Appending the reviews based on realtime

What's next for Demeter

We Can Collect the Feedbacks from the website and can be categorized into different problems faced by Women. Further, we can do a sentiment analysis of those emotions. For that, we will be having a big and genuine dataset generated by our website. We can share the whole report of reviews with organizations to help them in increasing Women's Empowerment. By reports, Organizations can keep track that Equal Opportunities are being given to each and every employee.
