Inspiration As a solo participant in my first hackathon, I was deeply inspired by the real-world struggles faced by Thalassemia patients in India. The constant need for blood transfusions, difficulty in finding reliable donors, and lack of public awareness made me think: “What if I could use technology to bridge this gap?”
This led me to conceptualize Deergh Ayu — an AI-powered blood donation platform that not only connects donors and patients but also spreads awareness and builds a helpful, motivated donor community.
What I Learned :-
While researching this project, I learned:
-How serious Thalassemia is and how regular transfusions are a lifeline.
-There’s a lack of intelligent systems that match donors and patients in real time.
-AI can help predict donor availability, and gamification can improve donor retention.
-Chatbots can play a powerful role in spreading disease awareness in simple language.
Core Features (Planned):-
-Map-based donor matching based on radius and blood group
-Donor history + next eligible date with AI predictions
-Chatbot that explains Thalassemia in simple terms and helps parents assess symptoms
-Gamification: Badges, leaderboards, and social shoutouts
-Emergency alerts and direct contact system
-Data privacy and verified profiles for trust and safety
Challenges I Expect :-
-Building a reliable prediction model with limited data
-Making the chatbot accurate but simple
-Ensuring user privacy, especially with medical and location data
-Designing a system that’s useful, ethical, and scalable
-Building all this solo within limited time and resources
