Inspiration

In a child's world, few things are scarier than change. More than ever, our team thought it was important to explain why changes, like social distancing, need to happen in a way that is accessible to kids. The inspiration for this book came in part from watching the news and realizing that most coverage of the pandemic is laden with highly technical language, confusing figures, and mixed messages from public officials. We wanted to build a comprehensive guide to staying healthy and slowing the spread of Covid19 for children that is fun, easy to read, and validates their feelings.

What it does

This book follows a conversation between Dani, a young girl who misses her activities out in the community, and her doctor. It unpacks many of the questions and accompanying terminology that are difficult to explain to young children.

How we built it

Alé and Arely, a team of sisters, illustrated the book together, bringing the story to life with dynamic characters, bright colors, and a modern feel that will draw young readers into the story. The content was reviewed by a medical professional for accuracy, and the text borrows from the field of Immunology to help explain the cause of the pandemic and the amazing mechanisms inside our body that fight germs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was an amazing collaboration, and the best part of the project was getting feedback from other team members. We're so excited to bring this book to children and parents who are working through this difficult time together.

A Special Thanks

Dani's team of writers and artists is thrilled to share our debut children's book, and we are so grateful to the panel of judges for making this happen! We hope that our book can have an impact, even if it is small, to help educate our communities about Covid19 and the power we have to stop it.
