Inspiration

We all know what it's like to feel lonely, especially in the midst of a global pandemic. You're at home, alone, and it's easy to forget that we're all in this together. Connectr helps you remember that.

What it does

It connects users together and encourages them to start a conversation!

How we built it

We used Ruby on Rails for the backend and JavaScript for the frontend of the web app. We used Action Cable in Rails 6 - a full-stack offering that provides both a client-side JavaScript framework and a server-side Ruby framework. This helps multiple users to be logged into server at the same time very easily. UI was done using Semantic ui.

We used Spark AR to make the filters. Try it out on instagram using the links provided below!

Challenges we ran into

We got the domain connectr.space and we were supposed to receive an email to activate it within 24 hours but we didn't receive it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to come up with an idea and implement it without meeting in person. Submitting a project to an online hackathon is a first for all of us, and we're proud to have been able to accomplish that. None of us had used ruby before, so we decided to try it out. Everyone worked on languages and components they hadn't had experience with in the past like Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, photoshop, illustrator, Spark AR and video editing.

What we learned

We honed our skills in leadership, communication and teamwork. Team members learnt new languages like Ruby and JavaScript, and new skills using Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Spark AR for the first time.
