Inspiration: Each of us has ties with a healthcare worker, whether it be a relative or friend. At our current sate, we may not possess the means to create a cure for COVID-19, but that doesn't mean we can't do anything. Healthcare workers are overwhelmed with the number of patients who have the virus. It is important that we as a community do our best to reduce the numbers. So our team is inspired by our desire to stop the spread of the virus as efficiently as possible in order to help the healthcare workers we look up to.
What it does: Our app, Connect the Dots, is designed to let users know if they have recently been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and direct them to their next steps upon receiving this news, all while maintaining user privacy.
Challenges we ran into included: Using technology while maintaining a level of privacy, accounting for small children and elderly people who do not have a phone, and how to ensure legitimacy/credibility of reports and the app itself
What we learned: In our preliminary research, we learned how other countries besides the U.S are handling contact tracing and we also learned ways to contact trace using different technologies.
What's next for Connect The Dots: We hope to continue to expand our project and work on making the app a reality.
