Inspiration
Our project was inspired by our deep appreciation for Nepal's abundant cultural heritage. We recognised the untapped potential in the country's historical sites, filled with captivating stories and rich folklore. However, these treasures remained hidden due to a lack of exposure and information. This realisation fuelled our determination to create a solution that would bridge the gap and bring Nepal's heritage to the forefront.
What it does
Our project, "Chitran," is an Augmented Reality (AR) application that reimagines the Kathmandu Durbar Square experience. Chitran transforms these sites into immersive educational journeys by overlaying digital content onto physical structures and artifacts. Through this application, users can explore Nepal's history, culture, and folklore in an interactive and engaging manner. It serves as a bridge between the past and present, offering a profound insight into Nepal's heritage.
How we built it
In a whirlwind 48-hour hackathon, we embarked on a journey of technological exploration and innovation. Augmented Reality (AR) became our focus, and we leveraged AR Foundation and Google ARCore to seamlessly integrate digital content into the physical world. Mobile application development was achieved using the Flutter framework to ensure compatibility with the Android platform. During those intense hours, we scripted narratives, designed interactive features, and sourced historical content, all while battling the relentless countdown.
Challenges we ran into
The most significant challenges we faced were time constraints and intermittent internet connectivity, which hindered our research and development efforts. Integrating AR into the Flutter maintaining a flawless user experience presented technical hurdles. Additinally, the glitches in the ARFoundation posed to be a real challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the tight timeline and obstacles, we successfully created a functional AR application that brings Nepal's heritage to life. Chitran provides an immersive and educational experience for users, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of Nepal's cultural significance. We're proud of our dedication and determination in delivering a valuable educational tool and sharing the enchanting folklore that defines Nepal's history.
What we learned
Our journey taught us the power of innovation and collaboration under pressure. We gained expertise in AR technology, mobile application development, and content creation. We also developed resilience in the face of challenges and discovered the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
What's next for Chitran
The future holds exciting possibilities for Chitran. Our plan includes expanding the application's coverage to encompass more of Kathmandu Durbar Square's structures and artifacts. We're determined to take our project to a larger scale, focusing on seamlessly integrating it for an enhanced user experience. Refining our content remains a priority. We'll continue to curate captivating narratives, historical content, and interactive elements. Collaboration with local authorities is on our agenda to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and authenticity. We're also committed to improving user engagement, making Chitran a valuable tool for promoting Nepal's tourism, education, and cultural preservation. We're eager to see where this journey takes us.
