What is the problem your solution addresses?
Our solution addresses reproductive health and menstrual inequity that has been neglected in social and economic discourse. The unequal access to menstrual products, education, and reproductive care often go unnoticed because of the stigma and lack of awareness. For instance, BruiNecessities, a student lead organization, initiated distributing menstrual products to bathrooms on campuses. However, they were faced with many obstacles, such as broadcasting where the resources were available. Based on our interviews, 87% of interviewees did not know about these resources because menstrual/reproductive health is often considered a “taboo” subject. Hence, the quantitative and qualitative data collected through user research led to the proposed solution.
Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?
Specifically, we picked this solution to raise awareness for the lack of basic resources students encounter. We seek to fill these gaps by working with different entities on campus to bring programs and services to students. We wanted to create a platform to make the knowledge of these resources more accessible and advocate for better self-care. Our solution also provides a means to converse about taboo topics anonymously and confidentially to further destigmatize them.
