Inspiration
Public transportation is one of the biggest challenges for students and daily commuters. Many people waste time waiting at bus stops without knowing the exact arrival time of the bus. We wanted to solve this real-world problem by building BusMate, a smart bus tracking and travel assistant that helps users travel more efficiently and confidently.
The idea came from observing how students and office workers struggle with delays, route confusion, and lack of live bus information. Our goal was to create a simple, modern, and accessible platform that makes public transportation smarter.

We designed BusMate using modern app development tools and AI-assisted workflows.
Technologies & Tools Used Frontend: React / Next.js UI Design: Tailwind CSS Maps & Location Services: Google Maps API Real-Time Tracking: GPS-based location updates Backend: Firebase / Node.js AI Tools: Astro AI & FreeBuff for rapid development
We first created the user interface and route system, then integrated map services and live tracking functionality. After that, we focused on performance optimization and user experience improvements.
Challenges we ran into
Building BusMate came with several challenges:
Real-time tracking accuracy Synchronizing live bus locations and updating them smoothly was difficult. Route optimization Managing bus routes and displaying correct navigation information required careful logic and testing. UI/UX simplicity We wanted the app to remain simple while still providing many useful features. API integration Integrating maps and live location services required debugging and optimization.
Despite these challenges, we learned how to work with APIs, location systems, real-time updates, and scalable app architecture.
