Project Overview

Briefly explain what your project is, who it's for, and the problem it solves. BuddyApp is a friend who helps you stay focused while you work on your laptop or PC. It aims to be as minimal as possible, and solves the issue of poor task initiation, overwhelming number of tasks, and lack of focus, by keeping track of time spent on distracting websites or programs, and transitioning you back to what you were working on.

Research Process & Findings

Describe how you approached your research. If you ran surveys or interviews, include links to the forms/questions. If you used secondary sources, link those too. We looked at to-do apps, and focus apps, and many of them were overwhelming with too many buttons, words, and colours, which can detract from your goal of staying focused. In addition, many neurodivergent students or young people who do a majority of their work on a desktop set up, can find themselves distracted, with their focus directed on social media, news, gaming, and other distractible websites or programs.

Key Design Decisions

The most important feature of our app that we focused on is simplicity, allowing users to easily navigate through the app without feeling overwhelmed by too much information. We noticed that many focus apps were not necessarily helping the user feel productive and motivated to work so our app encourages users to be mindful and present in their task, with Buddy serving as a companion to keep users focused. For the visual UI elements, we used a cool toned blue colour palette and simple rounded shapes to create a “friendly” and “approachable” atmosphere.
