Project Story: Nyx – Black Wings

Inspiration

Black Wings was inspired by Nyx, the primordial Goddess of Night, born from Chaos.
I wanted to explore the journey of a being emerging from darkness, transforming hardship into power, and claiming sovereignty over what once threatened her.

The idea came from the timeless appeal of myth and the female force in our history and myth — how stories of creation, struggle, and transformation resonate across cultures. But the choice also have an other mening - Nyx is the European Moon Lander by the Explorations Company designed for missions to Low Earth Orbit (LEO), lunar orbit, and the Moon. Mission Possible - The second demonstration mission, a larger subscale prototype, launched in June 2025 on the SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter-14 mission. It was a full test of re-entry and splashdown technologies and carried commercial cargo. Part of this cargo was the MoonMars Museum: On the 2nd of March 2025, it landed at Mare Crisium on the Moon's surface and became the first Museum on the Moon. Part of the MoonMars Museum is my art both on the first and second mission, and Nyx will hopefully also be on the Nyx Moon Lander in 2028.

Here, in this music video, I focused on night, shadow, and wings as metaphors for trials, memory, and resilience but also the Moon as a metaphore silent, powerful, alive in the dark. Nyx is the goddess who guides the night; I’m the moon-lander who follows her shadow. Together, we turn darkness into a bright tale.

What I Learned

This project allowed me to explore:

  • Visual storytelling through symbolism, where wings, shadows, and shifting darkness carry narrative weight.

  • Sound as a narrative driver, pairing music rhythm and emotional intensity with visual motion.

  • Minimal character reliance, letting environment and mythic imagery convey transformation.

It also reinforced that modern myth can be expressed through abstraction — where feeling, not dialogue, shapes the story.

How I Built the Project

Concept & Visual Development

I designed a world that reflects Nyx’s origin in Chaos:

  • Shifting nightscapes, fractal shadows, and flowing darkness

  • Wings as extensions of memory and struggle

  • Light emerging subtly from within darkness to signify transformation

The visuals were constructed to make the viewer feel both the weight of hardship and the majesty of rising from it.

Animation & Production

The video was created using a hybrid workflow:

  • AI-assisted concept frames for surreal and dynamic composition

  • Manual refinement and compositing to retain emotional subtlety

  • Layered effects for light, shadow, and motion to evoke a dreamlike, mythic quality

Every frame was treated as part of Nyx’s journey — not just a scene, but a pulse of her emergence.

Sound & Music Integration

The music is central to the narrative:

  • Dark, atmospheric textures mirror her trials

  • Crescendos align with her rise and empowerment

  • Silence and space are used strategically to punctuate moments of reflection and transformation

Sound and visuals were developed in tandem, creating a unified mythic experience.

Challenges Faced

  1. Conveying narrative without dialogue
    The story relies on emotion, myth, and metaphor, which required careful visual and musical timing.

  2. Animating abstract mythic elements
    Wings, shadows, and night had to move with intent, reflecting emotional beats rather than physics.

  3. Balancing darkness and clarity
    The video explores extreme shadow while maintaining readability and visual impact.

  4. Translating chaos into narrative structure
    Nyx’s origin demanded a sense of disorder, but the story needed arcs of struggle and emergence.

What’s Next for Nyx & Black Wings

  • Expanded Visual Universe: Exploring deeper meaning and their interactions with Chaos.

  • Live Performances & Installations: Combining the music and visuals in immersive experiences.

  • Interactive Digital Experience: Letting audiences explore Nyx’s world and witness her rise from multiple perspectives: Creating art for the community in multiple forms, from music videos to NFTs.

This project marks the first chapter of a broader exploration of night, myth, and transformation — a contemporary myth for the modern age of tech and space exploration.
