Inspiration
- The idea for the "Bitcoin Timeline" infographic was inspired by a few research papers that listed the internet's and cypherpunk history over the last few decades. Though they were informative, I thought the information could be organized in a better way. As an advisor for a startup group and active volunteer with the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong's meetups, I recognized the need for a comprehensive visual resource that could educate newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts about the key milestones and developments in the history of Bitcoin (on one page).
What it does
- The primary objectives of this infographic marketing campaign are:
- Increase awareness and understanding of Bitcoin's origins, key events, and technological advancements.
- Position my "Bitcoin Timeline" as an authoritative and visually appealing educational resource for the cryptocurrency community.
- Drive targeted traffic to the infographic's page and generate leads for potential collaborations (my hot wallet project) or licensing opportunities (my other designs).
- Establish the creator (me) as a thought leader and subject matter expert in the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency space.
How we built it
- "The Bitcoin Timeline" is made for print media at 300 dpi. Illustrator is the main tool for RGB screen safe colors and organizing the design concepts. The other colorful designs are similar to subway maps.
Challenges we ran into
- The most difficult part of infographics is to compress information into easily understandable logic and map-like steps to the "pirate treasure". Finding all the clues (relevant papers) and characters for a wide range of backgrounds like; cryptocurrency enthusiasts, investors, developers, technology professionals, fintech industry stakeholders, educators, and students. This might be the "timeline" history remembers.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- This project started in 2018 from relative obscurity and has stood the "test of time". Now the work will have a chance at a dedicated landing page featuring a high-quality image for syndication, co-branding opportunities from influential Bitcoin and cryptocurrency influencers, thought leaders, and subject matter experts. The merit may enable the creator (me) to get endorsements, testimonials, or collaborative efforts.
What we learned
- There are many cypherpunks that should be listed. But the "timeline" with the right referral traffic from industry publications and influencers could be viral. And not for shallow meme reasons, but real education.
What's next for Bitcoin and the rise of the Cypherpunks
- The future of the infographics is a dedicated landing page, a high-quality image, detailed descriptions, and interactive links. This could maximize the viral potential of the infographic, and can focus and encourage more user feedback and education.
