Inspiration

We were inspired, I was inspired by the frustration around how unaffordable healthcare is right now and also how tough it is for many people around the globe to access it.

What it does

Better-Care is an AI first platform between doctors and patients for cheap AI assisted consultations. Where AI maintains the electronic health records of the patient.

And assists both sides - helping doctors with clinical documentation, treatment suggestions, and information synthesis, while assisting patients with medication reminders, appointment scheduling, and health tracking

Problem it solves

Better-Care addresses several core pain points in healthcare:

  • Fragmented Care & Lost Context: When patients switch doctors, their medical history is often lost, leading to repeated questions and inefficient care. Better-Care solves this with persistent, issue-focused chat channels that maintain complete conversation history, so new doctors inherit full context.

  • Poor Care Coordination: Doctors often lack a comprehensive view of a patient's journey and previous interactions. Our centralized communication hub, powered by AI, organizes information and summarizes previous interactions, highlighting key details and maintaining structured notes.

  • Access & Geographic Barriers: Patients, especially in rural areas, struggle to find specialists or get timely consultations. Better-Care enables remote consultations and allows patients to quickly switch doctors within the same channel, ensuring continuity and speed of care.

  • Administrative Burden & Documentation: Doctors spend excessive time on notes and paperwork. Our AI assistant automatically handles documentation and information synthesis, taking notes and organizing information so both sides can focus on care.

  • Patient Memory & Compliance Issues: Patients often forget medical instructions or important details. The AI assistant acts as a persistent memory and reminder system, tracking instructions, sending reminders, and helping patients recall previous discussions.

  • Affordable & Accessible: It eliminates the need for expensive in-person visits. And promises to provide cheap AI assisted consultations making healthcare more affordable and convenient for everyone.

How we built it

We developed Better-Care using a modern tech stack with Next js frontend, Express js backend with real-time WebSocket communication, and integrated AI for intelligent assistance.

Strict security rules are enforced to ensure that only the patient have full access to their health records. And the doctor lose any access as soon as the consultation is over for them?

Challenges we ran into

Healthcare solutions require HIPAA compliance. And right now Better-Care doesn't have that. But proper steps have been taken to ensure that in future it doesn't face any challenges regarding it. And for that, I have ensured that proper logic related to database schema, role based access control, or security laws are enforced.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrated AI into a system that is non-intrusive and benefits both the patient and the doctor by assisting the patient continuously remembers things for them and also for the doctor by maintaining a health record of the patient. So, I will be able to answer the questions with the patient and also assisting the doctor with queries.

What we learned

We also learned that continuity of care is as much about information architecture as it is about technology.

What's next for Better-Care

Here is what's next:

  • Implementing the doctor discovery feature.
  • Implementing the AI in a better way to retain memory about every conversation that it was tagged in.
