Inspiration
We were inspired by the Apple Measure app. It lets you place a measurement in the real world and still see it later. We thought, what if you could do the same with memories and notes?
What it does
AR Memory Journal lets users drop digital notes in real spaces. Notes can be private or public. Public notes notify nearby users, who can scan with their camera to discover them.
How we built it
Used Apple ARKit / RealityKit for augmented reality Gemini AI for note summarization, translation, and mood tagging Backend for storing notes and syncing across devices
Challenges we ran into
Making notes persist in the same location across sessions Keeping the interface simple and easy to use Testing AR features across different phones
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working AR demo during the hackathon Integrated Gemini AI with AR notes Created a simple flow for private and public notes
What we learned
We learned how to use AR for the first time We learned how to make notes stay in the same place using AR anchors We learned to keep the app simple so anyone can use it We learned how AI can make journaling smarter
What's next for AR Memory Journal
Add support for Android devices Build sharing features so friends can leave notes for each other Explore more creative uses: poems, art, local history, hidden AR stories
