Inspiration

Access to clean water is a growing concern globally, especially for industries and communities relying on safe water. We were inspired to create a system that not only monitors water quality but also detects hazards in real time, helping prevent contamination before it becomes a problem.

What it does

AQUA-TRACE continuously monitors water for contaminants, identifies potential hazards, and delivers real-time alerts. It ensures safe, clean water for both industrial operations and community use, making water safety proactive instead of reactive.

How we built it

We combined IoT sensors for real-time data collection with AI-driven analytics to detect contaminants accurately. The system integrates a cloud-based dashboard for easy visualization and reporting. Key technologies include Python for backend processing, sensor interfacing protocols, and a lightweight front-end for alerts and monitoring.

Challenges we ran into

We thought deeply into the following:

  • Ensuring real-time data accuracy from multiple sensors.
  • Integrating AI detection algorithms with hardware constraints.
  • Creating a user-friendly dashboard that is both informative and simple.
  • Maintaining system scalability for different environments.
  • Ensuring intuitive user experience within limited time and resources.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully built a working prototype that detects multiple water contaminants.
  • Developed a real-time alert system that can notify users instantly.
  • Created a cloud dashboard that visualizes water quality trends clearly.
  • Demonstrated the system in a live environment, confirming its reliability.

What we learned

  • Effective real-time monitoring requires both robust hardware and optimized software.
  • AI can significantly enhance hazard detection when trained on quality data.
  • User-friendly design is as important as system accuracy for adoption.
  • Collaboration between hardware and software teams is crucial for success.

What's next for AQUA-TRACE

  • Expand contaminant detection capabilities to include more chemical and biological hazards.
  • Implement predictive analytics for early contamination warning.
  • Optimize the system for large-scale deployment across industries and communities.
  • Explore integration with government water safety standards and smart city initiatives.
