Inspiration

With the pandemic coming to a close everyone has been thrown back into a new normal. Now, we all walk around with masks on and we're around a whole lot more people than we have been for the past year and a half. With these things in mind, our team connected over the shared challenge we have recognizing friends in masks and being able to find new meaningful connections and friendships post-pandemic. From this discussion came apprchble.

What it does

apprchble notifies users when their friends are nearby so they can go grab coffee between classes and allows users to see nearby friends' locations so they can meet up easily. Users can also swipe through users that are in close proximity to them (i.e. in the same dining hall) and request their location so they can meet and chat! This location-based system allows people to connect with others that may be at the same events or locations and are wanting to meet new people.

Challenges we ran into

With no one on our team having experience with app development or the Geolocation API, we decided to tackle only one of the two challenges. Since we were able to prototype the app using Figma, we decided that learning how to utilize the Geolocation API would be a more viable and fulfilling route for our team.

What's next for apprchble

The next features we would hope to implement are:

  • a messaging system
  • schedule integration & comparison with friends so they know when a good time to meet up is
  • further development of the working product
  • a mobile application
