Inspiration
India has a vast number of unmapped locations. Ongoing infrastructure changes necessitate the constant updating of mapped places for enhanced accuracy. During disasters, comprehensive mapping becomes imperative for effective response and recovery efforts. Gamification emerges as a compelling approach to incentivize the Volunteered Geographic Information(VGI) from users.
What it does
Participants are prompted to reach a randomly designated Point of Interest (POI) within a selected distance from their current location, whereupon they engage in a brief questionnaire about the site, earning points at each stage to sustain their interest in the process.
How we built it
Developed a location-based application using Flutter with OpenStreetMaps on the frontend, coupled with the Django framework and Python on the backend.
Challenges we ran into
Location updates based on user movement could be handled in a more clean and efficient way.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The overall game and the potential benefits for India, along with the design enhancements implemented during this challenge, present a solution aimed at fostering engagement, community awareness, and positive impacts.
What we learned
The difference between a functional application and a well designed one, as mentioned here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIepaf7ks40 These insights offer valuable tips that will help in the long run.
What's next for Amazing Mapper
Enhance the game further by incorporating additional design improvements for a visually engaging experience. Optimize the location-based notification logic to ensure precise and timely alerts, addressing user feedback. Conduct extensive testing with a diverse group of users to gather valuable insights and refine the user experience. Finally, release the polished version to the public, ensuring a well-crafted, user-friendly game for widespread enjoyment and adoption.
