Inspiration
This project was made for the Digital Humanities 101 final project, a full length research project critiquing a publicly available dataset. Our group chose data on Airbnb listings from multiple cities. Research Team : Kelly Truong, Diana Gonzalez, Sammy Sahyouni, Richard Quach, Edgar Habelrih, & Cat Wang.
What it does
displays our research and visualizations crafted for our argument of Airbnb's adverse effects on metropolitan areas such as monopolizing the hospitality industry, gentrifying neighborhoods, and deregulating local housing markets.
How I built it
HTML & CSS using the online repl.it ide. I also designed the website over figma to plan the layouts and get the CSS framework
Challenges I ran into
Positioning (cough flexbox) and overriding some CSS child selectors. Time was a constraint well and continual updates with the research narrative and having to resize and reposition things as a result.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
learned how to use flexbox well :)))) and got better at organizing HTML.
What I learned
CSS can take you pretty far, I thought i'd need javascript for dropdown menus or hover interaction but there were some CSS properties! flexbox is always the answer.
What's next for AirBnBruins
ngl hopefully an A on our project. Also maybe some more media queries with responsive web design, current design is intended by 1440x900 res monitor.
